Historic William Reed Home
This Italianate Victorian was constructed for William Reed to live in with his new wife E. Ella Howes in 1878. William's Father, Benjamin Reed, commissioned the house to be built as a wedding gift. Benjamin was a local wealthy shipbuilder who owned what is now Lobsterman's Wharf and Hogdon Yachts. He even had the Methodist Church across the street moved to the current location from Boothbay Common in the 1860's!
William lived here till his death just before the turn of the century. Hs widow and her sister let rooms to workers at the shipyard and also for tourists until Ella's death in approx. the 1940's.
It has been a private and commercial property over the years, most recently the lovely Sailmaker's Inn (during the 1990's), then Wee Scottie Antiques until 2004.
This fine home is offered for sale at $679,000. For more information, please see the listing page.
